SA stamp duty questions

Do first home buyers pay stamp duty in SA?

South Australia offers stamp duty relief for eligible first home buyers purchasing a new home, which can reduce the duty substantially, in some cases to nothing. Established homes are treated differently, and criteria change: check RevenueSA for the current rules or ask us to walk you through them.

When is stamp duty payable?

Generally at or around settlement, alongside registration fees. Your conveyancer manages the mechanics; your budget needs to allow for it well before then, which is why it belongs in the earliest maths.

Does stamp duty apply to investment purchases?

Yes, SA duty applies to residential investment purchases at the general rates, and other costs and surcharges can apply in specific situations, such as foreign purchaser surcharges.

Is this calculator advice?

No. It estimates duty from published general rates and your input. Concessions, surcharges and your circumstances can change the real figure. Confirm with RevenueSA or your conveyancer.
